DERBY COLLEGE TAKE 1st PLACE
The team of eight players all part of the new innovative PERFORMANCE GOLF ACADEMY DERBY player training programme based at Morley Hayes Golf Complex finished in 1st place in the 1st event of the Midland region qualifying for the National Finals. Bradley Larimore led the way for Derby College shooting a best of the day Net 68, the only score under par on the day. Nico Pickard’s 72 which was 2nd best score of the day along with Jack Cope’s 73 were major contributory factors to Derby College’s success as the players struggled with the 30-40 mile wind which swept across the Stonebridge course. PERFORMANCE GOLF ACADEMY DERBY programme manager Nigel Furniss commented; The format of each event is a team of 8 players represent each college with the best 6 scores from the 8 to count. The leading college earns 5 points, 2nd place 4 points, 3rd place 3 points, 4th place 2 points and 1st place 1 point. Derby College now top the Midland Group of the National Inter Collegiate regional qualification stage, ahead of Solihull, Hartpury, Yale and Mid Cheshire college’s. The next round will see Derby College visit Puckrup Hall Golf Club in Gloucestershire on Wednesday 22nd October.
