PERFORMANCE GOLF DEGREE PROGRAMME 

 

The Performance Golf Degree programme has been designed to present higher education students (aged 18-22) with an opportunity to develop their golf to the highest level whilst studying for a future career in the golf industry.

PERFORMANCE GOLF TRAINING PROGRAMME

 

The Performance Golf Degree offers an excellent golf specific training programme running alongside the sports coaching degree delivered by a team of expert academics

and coaches with an impressive track record of achieving success.

 

The golf coaching and support programme is delivered by a highly accomplished group of coaches and support staff including:

 

Steve Astle – Technical Long Game

James Whatley – Technical Short Game & Putting

Dr. Brian Hemmings - Psychology

Nigel Furniss – Performance Measurement & Lifestyle Planning

Peter Swailes - Physical

John Watson – Biomechanical Assessment

 

We also have guest visits from leading coaches such as Graham Walker the England National Coach and industry experts who work on the European Tour and for leading golf equipment manufacturers.

 

We use cutting edge technology such as Flightscope and SAM Putt Lab to ensure the student receives all the necessary information to enable them to take their games to a higher level.

 

You will receive access to the Performance Golf Training programme weekly whilst undertaking your study. You will also have the chance to compete in National Leagues & Championships and undertake Warm Weather Training abroad.

 

EDUCATION – FdSc Sports COACHING

 

Based at Derby College in partnership with Derby University the educational programme aims to enable you to develop a knowledge and understanding of sports coaching in a specified context.

 

The course will serve as an advanced coaching programme for you if you wish to undertake coaching opportunities with sports clubs and National Governing Bodies in the future.

 

CONTENT

 

Your principal modules of study will be based on the following:

  • Introduction To Exercise Physiology
  • Introduction to Anatomy and Kinesiology
  • Sport & Physical Activity Development
  • Sport Coaching: Work Based Project
  • Research & Academic Skills
  • Sport Coaching Practice 1
  • Sport Coaching Practice 2

 

COURSE DURATION

 

Duration

Certificate=1 year

Foundation Degree=Two years

 

The course offers an option to progress to the University of Derby to complete a third year and obtain a full degree in BA (Hons) Coaching & Sport Development.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

 

Our entry requirements are usually 120 UCAS points, of which at least 100 will be from your core A2s (full A levels) or equivalent qualifications such as BTEC Diploma, International Baccalaureate, Scottish Highers etc.

 

We'll accept up to 20 points towards the total from level 3 qualifications such as AS levels (where those AS levels are not taken on to A2 level), the Extended Project or Music qualifications.

 

We don't accept points from Key Skills Level 3. If you have any questions about what is or isn't accepted, please contact our Admissions team.

 

We also accept the Access to HE Diploma.

 

Your points at level 3 will be in addition to 5 GCSEs at grade C or equivalent level 2 qualifications.

 

You'll learn through a wide range of lectures, practical work, laboratory work and hands on experience making you employable in the golfing industry.
