PERFORMANCE GOLF has assembled a team of experts, selected for their golf specific knowledge and experience of working with champions! Our team have worked at National and International level delivering player training programmes for the England Golf Team through to professional players on the world tours.
The team have been involved in International research providing them with the expertise to train golfers to improve their performance and achieve excellence.
Nigel has worked as Performance Director for the English Golf Union responsible for the successful development, management and implementation of their World Class Performance Programme.
He has also worked extensively with players, supporting them with their planning and management of schedules focused at improving performance and achieving player’s annual goals.
Following his previous experiences and research into golf programmes around the world and across Olympic sport he strongly believes in helping players to build a structured and planned programme of training and preparation centred on their personal goals and aspirations.
All our efforts are focused at helping players to “Plan for Success”.
Dr. BRIAN HEMMINGS
Brian, who has worked on the Performance Golf Academy programme for the past 5 years has also been the lead psychologist to the England golf team for 16 years (1997-2013) delivering high performance strategies with European and World Championship winning teams and individuals at men’s, youth and junior level. During this time he helped develop the mental skills of the best young emerging English golfers including the likes of Danny Willett, Chris Wood, Ross Fisher, Tommy Fleetwood, Richard Finch, Ross McGowan, Paul Waring, Seve Benson, and David Horsey, along with many Walker Cup players such as R&A World No. 1 Jamie Moul, Matt Richardson, and Seniors Tour winner and amateur legend Gary Wolstenhome.
Brian has continued to work with many of these players into their professional careers on the various European tours. He was also the performance psychologist to the English Women’s Golf Association (1999-2001 & 2006-2010) and works with several current LET players. Brian is the author of the CD ‘In the Zone: Simple Mental Skills to Improve Your Golf’ and three books, including the best-seller ’Mental Toughness for Golf: The Minds of Winners’. He is a regular presenter around the UK and Ireland on the PGA CPD programme, has presented at the PGA National Conference, and wrote the online PGA Certificate in Golf Psychology Coaching. As well as hosting three successful UK golf psychology conferences, Brian regularly runs Masterclasses in Golf Psychology for psychologists and golf coaches.
Brian has a wealth of experience in other sports, having worked with championship winning individuals and teams in professional cricket, 12 medallists in Olympic and Commonwealth Games boxing, and podium winners in single seat motor racing including Formula Ford, Formula 3, Superleague Formula, A1GP & Formula 1. Whilst golf consultancy takes up most of his time, Brian is still actively working in professional cricket and motorsport.
Brian gained his PhD in sport psychology from the University of Southampton in 1998; and has trained and mentored many golf psychology practitioners over the last decade. He is also trained in hypnosis. In 2010 he was awarded a Fellowship by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences in recognition of ‘esteemed personal achievement, skills, knowledge and service to BASES and the sport and exercise science community’.

Since qualifying as a Chartered Physiotherapist Bob has spent many years running a successful private practice, and also has a functional training studio. He has produced numerous articles on all aspects of health and fitness, which have been published in magazines, national newspapers and radio.
Bob has written chapters and contributions within fitness books, medical textbooks and other media. He has been a regular writer for golfing magazines and publications for the past 8 years, including Today’s Golfer, Golf World and Fore magazines… see www.physicalgolf.co.uk.
Bob is a consultant to Loughborough University, Badminton England, and England Golf, and works with a wide range of professional athletes varying from the field of golf to motor racing. As a co-founder of Physical Solutions he has written and delivered numerous training courses for Coaches, P.T’s and medical professionals.
Bobs passion is the field of motor development, physical training and long-term athlete development, designing and presenting resources to be used in education, rehab and sport.
Bob is also involved in developing children’s Physical Education and core movement skills at a national curriculum level.
He is no more than an average golfer, an enthusiastic but uncultured tennis player, and barely competes in amateur motor racing.
Steve has established himself with a reputation as one of the UK's most in demand coaches, consistently helping players at the highest level to their most successful results and helping young professionals and elite amateurs to elevate their games to the next level. Steve frequently works with the Midlands top players and the elite pros and amateurs in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Steve is also England Regional U.18 Coach and Head of Golf Performance for the Derbyshire Institute of Sport.
In 2013 Steve will have client representatives on all Major Tours throughout Europe and continues to work out of East Midlands Golf Academy as Head of Instruction. Golf World Magazine recently listed Steve in their Top 100 Coaches in the UK and Ireland.
A graduate of Florida A&M University in Tallahassee Steve has also assisted over 30 UK students/athletes in finding Golf Scholarships in America and is now also working for the British PGA in training and overseeing tutors on the UKCC coach education and development programme.
Steve is a firm believer in teaching the individual to understand their own game and what makes it work and where it breaks down. Steve specializes in long term game development and uses up to date technology such as the Flithscope launch monitor to enhance his expert delivery.
James has worked on the Performance Golf Academy for the past 5 years during which time he has worked as lead coach for the Derbyshire Men’s & Ladies coaching programmes. He has also worked on the Lee Westwood Golf Academy for the last 5 years, delivering coaching on their junior programmes.
He has a track record of improving players of all levels, in particular specialising in putting and short game.
In 2013 James will play in the European Tour’s flagship event the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, resulting from a high finish in the National PGA Playoffs. James has won many Professionals events, including the Midland Open, the Derbyshire Professionals Championship and represented Great Britain and Ireland in the Club Pro’s Ryder Cup and England in the International Team Championships. His experience of playing at a high level is invaluable for the student’s progression to the next level.
James has always resisted the temptation to teach one method to all players. He prefers to maintain an open mind and apply techniques that compliment players’ physique and mind set. He is trained and uses on a daily basis, video analysis, Flight scope launch monitor and Sam Putt lab.

MANAGER GOLF EDUCATION
Dom Taylor is the academic course leader for the academy and has been with the academy since its introduction. Dom has 13 years experience of lecturing and tutoring in sport, and working in the fitness industry in both the public and private sector. Dom has recently been responsible for installing a high tech analysis lab at Derby College which includes indoor golf facilities.
As well as his role as lead tutor on the programme Dom is also the National Manager of the Lee Westwood Golf Academy. These academies cater for children between the ages of 7 – 16 over the summer weeks. Dom uses this role to enhance the students’ education by offering work experience placements on these prestigious academies.
Dom also has an active role within British Colleges Sport, working on the organising group for the National golf championships as well as the BCS Open Golf Championships at St.Andrews.
STRENGTH & CONDITIONING COACH
Pete Swaile qualified from Loughborough University in 2005 has been working with golfers for several years, supporting them to condition their physique aimed at improving their golfing techniques.
Pete studied Sports Science at Undergraduate level before completing an MSc in Sports nutrition. Since then he worked as a national Master Trainer for Virgin Active before setting up Derby Fitness Ltd.
Pete works closely with a varied client base, ranging from Triathletes to Rowers and runners to Golfers. Pete helps athletes move towards their potential through strength and conditioning and nutrition interventions. Pete is also an Honorary Lecturer for the University of Birmingham, delivering workshops on the Advanced Golf Management Studies programme. He has also been a tutor for the PGA for several years teaching sports science to trainee golf professionals on the PGA Foundation Degree Programme.
